Winter Car Care Tips

The temperature is starting to drop across India. Everybody’s pulling out their woollies to keep themselves warm. But what about their cars? Most people do not realise that they need to pay special attention to their vehicles during the winter as extremely low temperatures, torrential rain, and heavy fog can cause several issues. If you’d like to keep your car running smoothly all through winter, here are some car care tips you should keep in mind.

1. Keep an Eye on Your Battery

Your car’s battery can change its functionality in cooler temperatures. So, it’s a good idea to get your battery checked at the start of winter. If your car battery is old, you will likely have to replace it.

2. Light Your Way

Depending on where you are, you could be facing situations such as heavy rain or fog every day. Either way, you need to ensure that your headlights, fog lights and indicators are all in proper working condition. If you aren’t able to see the road ahead clearly, you could end up having an accident. Make sure you replace any and all dim car lights. It’s also a good idea to replace your fog lights with bulbs that can penetrate dense fog.

3. Track Your Tyres

In the winters, your tyre pressure may drop depending on the temperature. So, make sure you get your pressure checked every few days. If you’re in a place where there’s heavy rainfall, your tyres must have excellent grip to prevent skidding on slippery roads. In case you’re in a place where it snows, you must equip your tyres with chains to enhance their grip on the road.

4. Fuel Up

It’s entirely possible that you aren’t using your car every day or very often. If your car lies idle for too long and the temperature is incredibly low, the fuel in your tank may freeze. To avoid this, you should keep your tank as full as possible. The more fuel in your tank, the less likely it is to freeze.

5. Insure Your Car

We’re sure your car insurance policy is up-to-date, but in case it’s about to expire, it’s best to renew it right away. The chances of meeting with an accident in winters, amid heavy rain or heavy fog are much higher, and a good four-wheeler insurance policy will help take care of all the associated damages.

6. Watch Your Wipers

Your windshield wipers are one of the most vital parts of your car, especially when there’s rain pouring down all around. In cooler climates, the rubber of your wipers may become hard and break. Or, if you’re in a wet climate, mould could form on the rubber, which could prevent your wipers from doing their job properly. Check your wipers frequently during the winter and replace them before they have a chance to cause any issues.

Driving during the winters doesn’t have to be difficult or trying. Check on your car regularly and make sure it’s serviced as required. As long as your car is in working condition and you have a good car insurance policy from a trusted four-wheeler insurance company, you’re ready to cruise through winter.
