The world is currently dealing with a major health crisis. The coronavirus has caused widespread panic and has even led to the public scrambling to purchase face masks, sanitizer and in Australia, rolls and rolls of toilet paper. But, the mass hysteria has led to the spread of a lot of misinformation. To make sure you know what you’re dealing with, here’s a look at everything you should know about the coronavirus.

What Are the Symptoms?

The coronavirus initially has the exact same symptoms as the regular flu and the most common amongst them are:

  • Fever
  • Dry Cough
  • Aches & Pains

It’s important to remember that some people who have the virus may only get mildly sick for a few days without further symptoms.

How Do I Avoid Getting Infected?

According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), here’s what you can do to take care of your health:

1. Wash Your Hands

You may not realise how often you’re touching things that others have touched first. In order to get rid of any germs on your hands, it’s vital that you wash your hands often and thoroughly, for at least 20 seconds at a time (you can sing Happy Birthday twice while you wash). You can also use a sanitizer to kill viruses.

2. Maintain a Safe Distance

When you’re out in public, try and keep at least 3 feet or 1 metre of distance between you and anybody else around you – especially if they’re sneezing or coughing.

3. Don’t Touch Your Eyes, Nose and Mouth

It’s easier for the virus to enter your body if it’s near your eyes, nose or mouth. So, unless you’ve just washed your hands, avoid touching your face as this could make it easier for the virus to target your respiratory system.

4. Avoid Travel

The coronavirus has officially been labelled a pandemic, which means that it’s present in almost every country across the world. To avoid getting infected, it’s best to limit travel, especially to places where the virus has spread rapidly.
